Famed as a leading American Surrealist and a herald of pop art and installation art the artist made a series of box assemblages such as the “Soap Bubble Sets”, the “Medici Slot Machine” series, the “Pink Palace” series, the “Hotel” series, the “Observatory” series, and the “Space Object Boxes” etc
Marin's treatment of paint, handling oils almost like watercolors, forays into abstraction and evocative stretches of bare canvas caught the eyes of younger painters. The Cubist breakdown of form and Futurism's obsession with moment and speed are evident in his breathless sketchy landscapes and seascapes.
Encouraged by this success he opened an independent atelier to challenge the École des Beaux-Arts and produced some best new history painters as Édouard Manet, John LA Farge, Pierre Puvis de Chavannes, karel Javurek and J-N Sylvester.
From the early scenes of soldiers and peasants in ‘The merry drinker c.1650’ and ‘The empty glass, c.1652 to opulent interiors as in ‘Merry Company, c.1663’ Hooch works excelled his style in genre paintings. Embellishing the walls of world famous museums Hooch's art scattered all around the globe.
