Painting depicts a tea stall at a Ghat in Varanasi. A typical tea stall owner, selling tea at Ghats, often has makeshift shop, including items that can be easily ported or removed. Stairs at the Ghat serve the purpose of tables and chairs. These tea stalls are the cosy corners for a friendly chat, debate or discussions in the refreshing morning or cold evenings. The colors represent the freshness of morning during picturesque sunrise in Varanasi.
Artist has remarkably captured the effects of light and shadow. Looked carefully, faces of people sitting inside the canopy aren't clearly visible because of lack of light under it. Shadows of pole on which the tent is supported are symmetrical and well detailed on the steps. Corner slopes of stones on which bucket is placed, adjacent to the second pole from right, look real.
